Job Title:  Director, Advanced Sourcing

Department: Sourcing                                                

Reports To:   Chief Procurement Officer                   


Position Summary


Responsible for the advanced sourcing process for new products and services to be used in customer facing offerings.  The Advanced Sourcing Manager will support attainment of cost, innovation, contract coverage, and quality objectives while supporting the agreed upon launch timelines.  This position will work collaboratively with Marketing, Category Management, and Products to determine the best sourcing recommendation. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide overall Sourcing Leadership for New Products & Services [liaison][control tower]
  • Partner with Marketing & the Category Management team to facilitate: request for quotations, outsourced services, component sourcing, supplier communications, and supplier/Client’ s meetings associated with new products.
  • Identify product development projects requiring Advanced Sourcing support and develop actions steps and timelines.
  • Understand Engineering component specifications and how they translate into supplier capability requirements.
  • In cooperation with Category Managers, manage supplier relationships, and position our Client as the category leader, enhancing insights and access to new technologies.
  • In cooperation with Category Managers, assess supplier’ s capability and validate supplier capacity & align critical component supply with program ramp schedules.
  • In cooperation with Category Managers, plan and manage supplier product introduction and retirement
  • Develop sourcing recommendations that are aligned with Marketing & Category Manager strategies, and prepare documentation for Sourcing Board approval (once implemented within our Client)
  • Develop Sourcing Plans that document early supplier involvement, Supplier Selection, Risk Mitigation Plans, Capacity Management and Supplier Ramp Up Plans and ensure the plan is executed.
  • In cooperation with Category Managers, ensure early identification of suppliers, and development of new suppliers for use in new product launches and product refreshes.
  • Identify timelines and tasks required to meet product launch schedules, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Track projects against key milestones, communicate status with necessary stakeholders, and develop corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure sourcing decisions utilize the preferred supplier list while supporting the identification of new suppliers and technologies.
  • Lead supplier selection, drive negotiations involving price, quality, delivery, terms, for new products and product refreshes.
  • Assist transition from Advanced Sourcing planning to the Category management team.
  • Formally award new projects to the selected supplier in conjunction with the Category Management team.


  Key Characteristics
  • Strong analytical skills inclusive of using and constructing working cost models.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings
  • Expertise in cost drivers, market condition evaluation, supplier production processes, and supply chain practices.
  • Proven negotiation skills including a history of negotiating complex business issues and risk assessment.
  • Leadership skills across external and internal teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, resolve problems, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment

Qualifications – Education, Experience
  • BS/BA degree in a technical, supply chain or business field is required.
  • MBA preferred
  • Working knowledge for sources of supply and applications of a variety of electronic and electromechanical components
  • Minimum of 7+ years sourcing and or supply chain experience. with finished goods.
