Android Development Engineer (Retail Software)

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate is an early career mobile programmer who will be a member of our  Retail Software development team. This individual’ s primary responsibility will be to support our existing Android mobile applications and the development of new Android mobile applications.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development of new Android mobile applications under the direction of a senior engineer.

• Design, code, unit test, debug and document programs.

• Clearly and actively communicate status of work and projects to stakeholders as needed.

• Work closely with  teams to identify and resolve issues/concerns.

• Diagnose and resolve software defects and problems.

• Meet time requirements for assignments, with minimal reminders.

• Provide work breakdown using standardized estimation techniques.

• Participate in work product reviews (e.g. code design).

• Support other legacy Android and Java applications as required.

Required Skills:

• Strong, fluent written and verbal communication in English.

• Demonstrated experience with Java and Android mobile programming.

• Experience with Android Studio.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with all phases of the software development life cycle (analysis, design, development, testing, defect tracking/resolution, deployment, field support).

• Experience with XML

• Familiarity with distributed cloud computing environments, modern computer software architectures and advanced software practices.

• Familiarity with Object Oriented Application architecture and programming.

• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Sprints, etc.)

• Familiarity with mobile/server based cloud computing.

• Familiarity with database systems using SQL Server or SQL Express .

• Familiarity with the Eclipse development environment.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with HTTP / HTTPS, REST, JSON, Node JS, React, React Native, Rest, Java Script, C++ and web development knowledge.

• Full stack programming experience.

• Familiarity with mobile iOS programming using Swift.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.


• Bachelor’ s degree in Computer Science or a related area of study focused on software.

• Formal or informal Android mobile programming experience.
