Job Description

We are seeking a Development Operations (DevOps) Engineer to work as a key asset to the software development and IT operations teams, supporting the entire development lifecycle and helping us build functional systems that improve customer experience.

In this role, the DevOps Engineer manages the software build and deploy process. The candidate will be tasked with streamlining product release by automating the build and deployment process, as well as the environment configuration and other miscellaneous processes in the Software Development Life Cycle.

As DevOps automation is implemented and integrated with the development process, the individual may be assigned Java development tasks. The individual in this role will have experience with software development lifecycles, Java development, modern build tools, virtual environment management, continuous integration, continuous delivery and Infrastructure as Code.

Strong organization, communication, and collaboration are essential to the success of in this role. Must be able to understand the needs of all development constituents and influence adoption of evolving frameworks, practices, and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for daily build and deploys process.
  • Own and drive improvements to build and release scripts, tools, and processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define and implement best practices for configuration management, continuous integration, automated testing and release management.
  • Participate in the ground-up design and planning for all future products and services.
  • Collaborate with peers on work estimation/planning and implementation of new versions/features of tools.
  • Research and recommend technology frameworks for source management, software build, infrastructure management, and continuous integration.
  • Provide leadership and practical knowledge for virtual computing environments like AWS.
  • Active participant through all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle. (SDLC), including post implementation support and maintenance.
  • Analyzes, designs, codes and implements technology software solutions.
  • Implement and own the CI/CD pipeline
  • Manage CD tooling
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting.
  • Build and maintain highly available production systems.
  • Implementing integrations requested by customers
  • Deploy updates and fixes
  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support
  • Build tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve customer experience
  • Develop software to integrate with internal back-end systems
  • Perform root cause analysis for production errors
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Develop scripts to automate visualization
  • Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Assist with other duties as assigned and additional duties as required.
  • Some travel required for offsite implementations.

Required Skills:
  • Bitbucket, Confluence and Jira or equivalent
  • Jenkins automation server, with plugins built for developing CI/CD pipelines
  • Selenium automation testing experience, or equivalent
  • Docker and Kubernetes containerization
  • Puppet/Ansible/Chef configuration management and deployment
  • Nagios or equivalent continuous monitoring and alerting
  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration
  • SQL (NoSQL preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of AWS
  • A strong understanding of code and script (Bash, Java, PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby)
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Build Tools including Maven or Gradle
  • Java Enterprise Applications (e.g. JEE, Spring, etc )
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Visio especially)

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years of work experience as a DevOps engineer and knowledge of Java software development
  • Strong experience with continuous integration, testing, and deployment

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with iOS and Android and Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms such as AirWatch
  • Experience working with Smartsheet or equivalent project management platform
  • Familiarity with and an ability to adapt a wide variety of open source technologies
  • Experience in Windows Systems Administration

  • Associates degree from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and/or work-related experience (Bachelor’ s degree from a four-year college in Computer Science preferred)
