IT Systems Support

Designs, builds, supports, and overall system management of Laboratory and Pathology systems for all hospital facilities. Coordinates financial and clinical applications integration as well as maintain systems requirements for operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all Laboratory and Pathology systems.(i.e. Sunquest, Copath, Fusion, Forward Advantage, etc.) and associated hospital systems.
  • Adapts and develops the Laboratory Information Systems to meet laboratory and hospital needs and insure regulatory compliance and operations efficiency.
  • Analyzes system functionality and makes recommendations to assure complete utilization of all modules.
  • Assists with capital and operations budget planning.
  • Collaborates with Laboratory, MIS, and Patient Care to plan systems upgrades and coordination of projects for enhancement of the systems.
  • Provides interdepartmental communications regarding systems needs and issues.
  • Performs file and database maintenance in the systems (including billing/CPT codes) and insures that proper documentation is submitted before changes are made.
  • Coordinates software changes and future releases from vendor(s). Coordinates the design and implementation of new system functionality. Assures that proper testing and verification procedures are followed. Insures that integration of systems/data is reviewed whenever Laboratory information is being shared between systems.
  • Designs, installs, monitors and maintains system interfaces to HIS, Laboratory instruments, reference laboratories, Point of Care systems, and physician offices/EMRs to help insure trouble-free and efficient operation.
  • Insures regulatory and compliance requirements are met with respect to information systems and continual laboratory readiness.
  • Researches, resolves problems/questions, and acts as resource regarding Laboratory computer systems. Provides timely feedback and direction to laboratory and hospital personnel. Insures that proper documentation is entered into the hospital information systems “ Help desk” log and systems logs when resolutions are completed.
  • Monitors the hardware preventive maintenance program, assists with hardware maintenance in the laboratory, and troubleshoots computer equipment problems.
  • Maintains reference database for printers and other system devices.
  • Develops and catalogs departmental policies and procedures for laboratory information systems assuring compliance with various regulatory agencies standards.
  • Performs daily systems monitoring, systems audits and HBI reviews as required.
  • Coordinates vendor resources during information systems downtimes and insures proper communications are made to laboratory and hospital departments.
  • Insures patient safety is maintained by analyzing/correcting medical record issues such as duplicate medical record numbers and misidentified patient records in a timely manner and maintaining systems/products such as Collection Manager and Barcoding in pathology.
  • Provides computer orientation, training, and/or inservice programs. Creates training materials in conjunction with laboratory supervisors and Education/Research coordinator for ongoing reference.
  • Produces routine reports, performs special projects and ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.

  • B.S. Degree in Laboratory science (i.e. medical technology, histotechnology, clinical laboratory science, etc.), computer science, or related field OR equivalent experience in lieu of the degree
  • Two (2) years of experience working with laboratory or healthcare clinical/financial systems.
  • Must possess good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with an ability to educate others.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot hardware such as pc’ s, printers, and handheld wireless devices as associated to Laboratory information systems.
