Job Description


  • Set-up and installation of computer hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, hard disk drives, CD/DVD drives, printers, and network communications devices.
  • Installation and configuration of software such as operating systems, MS Office Suite, e-mail, communications programs (wireless, VPN), and other standard applications.
  • Build, refine and maintain standard image definitions for hardware platforms.
  • Use WSUS and Prism Patchlink to deploy security patches/updates/fixes to network computers.
  • Build software package and write basic scripts for deployment to client computers. Reverse engineer malicious software installations and institute surveillance and removal actions.
  • Manage/Monitor the anti-virus/anti-spyware system (Trend Officescan), as assigned; ensure client related issues are addressed and affected computers are fully remediated.
  • Respond to user inquiries concerning systems operation; diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and operator problems using knowledge and available diagnostic resources.
  • Coordinate activities with Helpdesk, network services or other information systems groups.
  • Provide updates, status, and completion information to manager and/or users via verbal or written communication. Clearly document issues, resolutions and statuses through timely journal entries in the problem tracking system.
  • Draft and/or maintain routine procedures, documentation and instructions on the correct method for installing/configuring hardware and software applications, including knowledge base instructions intended for end users.
  • Review new hardware/software requests and makes recommendations/decisions appropriate to end user needs. Place orders with approved vendors. Track and maintain accurate records of software licensing.
  • Track/monitor the asset discovery system (Centennial).
  • Assist and train other PC Techs on new issues, problems and methods.
  • Perform projects of moderate complexity, completing thoroughly by established target dates.
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of the interaction between software applications and hardware, especially as related to SPR applications.
  • Work closely with NT Administrators to develop and implement effective group policies.
  • Develop/maintain an understanding of internal policies and structure as related to this position.
  • Participate openly in team meetings offering suggestions on issues/problems, procedures and best practices.
  • Seek and engage in opportunities to enhance knowledge and become familiar with emerging technologies.


Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of 24+ months related experience in a complex IT/network environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional certification(s) relevant to the responsibilities of this position highly desirable. Appropriate certifications include A+, Network+, MCP, MCDST, MOS, MCSE. HP hardware certifications (or other hardware certifications) a plus.


Strong, demonstrable knowledge of and ability to diagnose/resolve issues in all the following: Windows NT/2000/XP, Office Professional Suite, Internet Explorer, MS Outlook, PC hardware settings, BIOS settings, pcAnywhere, anti-virus software, and other SPR specific software applications, network printers, network communications (TCP/IP), and RAS/VPN. High level of knowledge and skill in use of asset discovery, security patching and software deployment tools. Experienced in developing desktop and laptop standard images, building and editing software deployment packages, remediating complex virus/malware infections, and writing basic/moderate scripts.
