Technical Product Manager

Technical Product Manager specializing in digital advertising experiences on the website, apps on mobile devices, and apps on connected devices. In this role, you will be responsible for defining ad technology solutions across 20+ platforms. You sit at the intersection of sales, ads, product, and technology groups to understand business revenue needs, advise on product direction, and drive ad implementations across all platforms. You will partner with many stakeholders. including sales and revenue teams, ad publishing, product management, operations, platform developers, QA testers, and vendors. You will also provide operational support for critical ad delivery issues, triaging reported problems and recommending optimal fixes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and drive advertising strategy and technical implementations for banner, video, and native ad experiences.
  • Create multi-platform technology plans for ad placements to integrate with the tech stack: Drupal CMS, Content API, microservices, responsive website, and platform app builds.
  • Define ad product specs, behaviors, and tagging needs per capability of ad server technologies: Google DFP, FreeWheel MRM, Auditude, and other systems.
  • Stay in tune with advertising market and industry trends. Advise on best practices for ad units, ad rendering, ad tags, rich media experiences, and creative formats.
  • Evaluate third-party integrations for revenue opportunities. Recommend solutions and identify risks. Collaborate with vendors on implementation, testing, and rollout.
  • Manage ad inventory plans and app configuration setup. Maintain ad product catalog for current and future product needs.
  • Engage regularly with Sales and Revenue teams to understand business needs and translate these to technical requirements for platforms.
  • Partner with digital Product Managers and Operations Managers to build roadmaps for new projects and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Engage frequently with platform developers to lead technical deep dives, provide clarifications, and validate implementations.
  • Lead group testing sessions to uncover platform issues with ad delivery, creative rendering, and cross-system ad integrations.
  • Lead problem triage, root cause analysis, and fix recommendations for critical operational issues.
  • Inform and influence across organizational levels (horizontal and vertical) for new product work and feature upgrades.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of technical leadership in the digital advertising industry.
  • Takes ownership of complex projects with scheduled commitments.
  • Can break down projects into action plans, document strategy, and estimate work efforts.
  • Knowledge of Google DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) and FreeWheel MRM for ad targeting, trafficking, and campaign creatives. - Experience working with IAB ad units, rich media ads (HTML5), VAST, VPAID, and engaging UI ad experiences (interstitials, ad expansions, etc.). - Understands live stream playback mechanisms, including HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), manifest formats, and SCTE stream markers. - Experience working with in-stream video ads, including pre-rolls, mid-rolls, and post-rolls.
  • Experience working with dynamic ad insertion (DAI), client-side ad insertion (CSAI), and server-side ad insertion (SSAI).
  • Strong knowledge of platform nuances for web browsers, mobile phones, tablets, and popular connected devices (smart TVs, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.).
  • Experience working with data formats (JSON, XML, databases, etc.).
  • Use of Charles proxy or similar tool to debug and rewrite requests.
  • Ability to present technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage workload in a fast-paced environment.
